This Wednesday January 11th is our regularly scheduled business meeting and our new Corporation President will be holding a meeting as well.

Sunday January 22nd is the Annual Bishop's {Cardinal} Right to Life Mass at St Patrick's in New York. Buses are available.

Monday January 23rd is the Washington, DC March for Life, and buses are also available for that. I will be attending both.

January 23rd is also our Social meeting and those there will put the final preparation together for our :

Night at the Races, TailGaiter on Saturday January 28th at 7:00 PM.
Admission will be 12.00 per person with of course all goodies necessary to have a great night.

My Dear Brother Knights:

As I begin this column, Mother Nature seems to be making Her natural annual transition from Winter to Spring. The Penitential Season of Lent, and the Feast Days of St. Patrick, St. Joseph, and the Annunciation are approaching.

As of this writting, I am happy to report that our Meeting Room, located next to Msgr. Kane Hall is now renovated. The $3,500.00 renovation consists of new tiled flooring and freshly painted walls. In addition, the cabinet doors have been replaced by St. Elizabeth Parish free of charge.

In good time, I would like very much to errect our pictures and plaques upon the walls in an effort to bring forth our fraternal identity. Perhaps the chairs will be replaced, though we must discuss this further as a body of members.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the invitation of Vira Luckstone and Father Frank Schneider, our Chaplain, I attended a meeting relative to the 50th Jubilee of St. Elizabeth Parish. St. Elizabeth Parish has entered the stage of preparation for the Jubilee. To this end, I am seeking the assistance of the Membership Roster and of the Charter Members in particular.

I would respectfully ask that you all refer to the enclosed document/questionnaire St. Elizabeth of Hungary Golden Jubilee Ministry/Organization History. Please feel free to answer the questions to the best of your ability and return the form to St. Elizabeth Parish Center, to the attention of Heidi Distante or via E-mail: heidi@vblt.com I am confident Heidi would love to hear from the Knights, given our longstanding history in St. Elizabeth Parish and the surrounding community.

March is Membership Blitz Month. Do not be bashful. Recruit a new member for St. Elizabeth Council.

Good Evening My Brothers:

Let me take this opportunity to extend to each of you and your families a Blessed, Happy, and Healthy New Year in 2011.

I must say, December 2010 was a festive month for us. My heartfelt and sincere thanks goes out to the Melville Fire Department for having visited St. Elizabeth Church on the bitter cold afternoon of Sunday, December 5, 2010 for the purpose of inspecting the Christmas Lights on the tree.

On Tuesday, December 7, 2010 the annual Christmas Tree Lighting was held. Father Frank led the Knights, Parishioners, and the Young People from Religious Education in Christmas Caroling.

Afterward, we all gathered in Msgr. Kane Hall for refreshments. These festivities were well received.

Finally, on December 9, 2010 a festive Knights Christmas Party and gathering was held at Orlando's Restaurant, Commack.

As of this writting, I am happy to report that the Knights Room located next door to Msgr. Kane Hall has been renovated. The renovations consist of new tiled flooring and a paint job. At some point, the doors on the wooden Storage Cabinets will be replaced.

Our meeting nights take place on the Second Wednesday and Fourth Monday of each month at 8:00pm. Refreshments prior. Why not come on down and check out the place. We would love to have you.

I am pleased to report that the annual Suffolk Chapter Charity Drive is now underway. The Primary Beneficiary this year is The Sunrise Fund of Stonybrook University Hospital. This is a program that addresses Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders.

IN MY REMARKS THIS EVENING I ENCOURGED ALL TO WORK TOGETHER IN A SPIRIT OF UNITY AND COOPERATION WITH OUR COUNCIL AND PARISH AS WE ADDRESS AND RESOLVE THE CHALENGES WE AS A COUNCIL AND PARISH ARE FACING AT PRESENT.

ONE THIRD OF OUR MEETING ROOM HAS BEEN SACRIFICED FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACCOMODATING A NEED TO SECURE ADDITIONAL CLASSROOM SPACE FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES AND TO SECURE A DWELLING FOR THE YOUTH GROUP OF ST. ELIZABETH PARISH. WE, THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OCCUPY THE REMAINING TWO THIRDS OF SPACE.

Good Afternoon My Brothers:

I hope this column finds you all doing well. I have just returned from the Officers Training Session which was held this morning at Shrine of St. Anne Council, Brentwood.

The session was helpful insofar as concentrating upon leadership and motivational skills. It was definitely stressed that there no "I" in TEAMWORK. I am calling upon each member to take an active part in council meetings and functions. I would like to delegate some responsibilities to my officers that we may have as productive a year as we possibly can. Please Help.

The needs of the membership must coincede with the needs of the council. In short, I am asking you all to share your gifts and talents, your input, thoughts, and ideas, whatever it might be that you all consider to be meaningful, as to insure the growth of St. Elizabeth Council.

I pose this question(s) for your consideration: In terms of the history of our council: Where has St. Elizabeth Council been in previous years? Where is St. Elizabeth Council today? and Where is St. Elizabeth to go in the future?

We have this in our hands and hearts to decide. What are our goals and vision for St. Elizabeth Council? If not now, When? and if not us, Who?

In recent years, The Knights of Columbus orderwide has experienced some unfortunate declines in membership. For example, 88% of those who join the order do so because of interest in the church. However, 43% of members have lapsed for lack of follow up. Communication with the roster is vital because the individual circumstances in the lives of our membership can, and often do, change. 90% dropped out because no one asked for their help within the council insofar as serving on a committee or other endeavor.

On a brighter note, over our 128 year history, the Knights of Columbus has addressed and undergone change in accordance with the challenges which have faced both Holy Mother Church and our local communities and society as a whole. I would invite you all to refer to the August, 2010, edition of "Columbia Magazine" and read the article entitled, "Then and Now, The Changing Face of Columbianism". The article begins on page 10.

In addition, please refer to page 4 of the August 11, 2010 edition of "The Long Island Catholic". The Knights of Columbus are receiving some good publicity at the hands of our Bishops.

In closing, I would like to ask a favor of each of you. Two things: 1. If you know of a member of the council who has not attended a meeting for an extended period of time, why not reach out to the member and invite him to join us at a council meeting or function? Our meetings are held on the Second Wednesday and Fourth Monday of each month at 7:00pm. 2. Do not be bashful..recruit a member or members for St. Elizabeth Council.

Membership equals Programs and Programs equals Membership. Onward, Christian Soldiers! Remember as your Grand Knight, I am only a phone call or an E-mail away. Hope to see you soon.

My Dear Brothers in Columbianism:

Let me take this opportuntity to express my heartfelt appreciation to you all for your vote of confidence to serve a second term as your Grand Knight on Monday, June 28, 2010.

As I write this column, I find myself sitting in air conditioning. I hope you all all enjoying the summer though at the same time staying relaxed and cool.

Rest assurred, I will discharge my duties to the very best of my ability. Remember: No man is an island and alone I can do nothing. In the coming weeks, I hope to take the opportunity with your assistance, to "take an inventory" of council programs and to re-evaluate them. It is not my intention to fingerpoint, harp or to be critical of your efforts. Let us see what we can do over the coming year to improve upon our council programs towards the ends of achieving our fraternal goals.

For those of you who have access to the internet, may I ask a small favor in advance of the meeting on August 11, 2010? Please log onto the Supreme Council Website: www.kofc.org Scroll down the Homepage and left mouseclick on the "Take Inventory" Link." I will have printed handouts for your consideration on August 11, 2010.

This is a rather critical year in the history of St. Elizabeth Council. We, the members, are currently faced with important decisions relative to our very dwelling. The need for additional classroom space in the parish center for the purpose of accomodating the youth group and religious education programs is a challenge currently facing St. Elizabeth Parish.

I feel if we work together as Catholic Gentlemen, in a true spirit of columbianism and co-operation, both St. Elizabeth Parish and KofC Council will overcome all challanges and obstacles.

Let me take this opportunity to remind everyone our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 7:00pm. The purpose is to begin to address the afformentioned concerns.

The Annual Installation of Council Officers will take place on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 7:00pm. The ceremony is open to the public. All are most welcome to join us. RSVP to Grand Knight William P. Murphy, by September 1, 2010.

For the coming year, the Council Meetings will take place on the Second Wednesday of the month. Officers Meetings at 7:00pm and the Business Meeting will immediately follow. The Social Meeting will take place on the Fourth Monday of the month at 7:00pm.

Good Afternoon my Brothers:

The month of March, 2010 was a busy one indeed. Our monthly business meeting was held on Wednesday, March 3. On this occasion, we set dates for council events and fundraisers for the coming fraternal year. I look forward to meeting with Father Frank later in the Spring to confirm and finalize these.

Wednesday, March 10, was the regular Business Meeting. During the proceedings, we made final preparations for the St. Patrick's Day Parade and The Night at the Races. The Night at the Races was well attended despite severe weather.

Monday, March 22, provided an opportunity to invite prospective members to join our ranks. In addition, having the Traveling Maddonna in our midst, we prayed the Rosary and recited the Novena to Our Lady of Charity.

March 29, 2010 is Knights of Columbus Day in New York State. Please log onto the New York State Website to read the proclamation. Let us be proud of our heritage as Knights. In addition, let us do all we can to keep the legacy of our founder, The Venerable
Father Michael J. McGivney alive.

As Holy Week approaches, let us enter into The Tridium and celebrate Easter with mind and heart renewed.

We will have Officers Meeting on Wednesday, April 7, at 8:oopm. As of this writting, I expect Donald Graham PGK, FDD, PCC to join us.

A regular Business Meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 14, at 8:00pm. We hope to see you in attendance.

My Dear Brothers in Columbianism:

The Month of January presented several opportunities to give witness to the sanctity of all life, in a special way to give witness to the lives of the unborn.

On Sunday, January, 17, I had opportunity to visit St. Patrick's Cathedral for the Annual Right to Life Mass. Archbishop Dolan praised the Knights of Columbus for our committment to the cause of life.

On January 22, I had opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. An estimated 500 thousand people took to our Nations Capital to stand up for Life.

I can only encourage you all to attend the annual Birthright Party on February 14, at 2:00pm at Father Judge Council.

On January 23, St. Elizabeth Council conducted a basketball free throw in conjuction with Archbishop Sheen Council, Dix Hills. All the children had a lot of fun.

Financial Secretary, Joseph Arnone, PGK is in the process of collecting membership dues and mailing new membership cards. Please do submit your dues in a timely manner to Joseph. If, for any reason, you are facing hardship or distress let this be known to us. We do value your affiliation with us and we do not want to suspend any members if circumstances can be helped.

March is Membership Blitz Month. Do you know a prospective member? Someone who might be interested in joining the Knights of Columbus? If the answer is "Yes", please do submit the name(s) to the council. Don't be at all bashful. Recruit a member for St. Elizabeth Council.

March 13 is the evening set for The St. Patrick/St. Joseph Day Dance and Night at the Races. The primary beneficiary will be The St. Elizabeth Council College Book Fund.

This is a fundraiser for our high school graduates continuing their education at college in the fall.

this is the first year of our college book program to assist freshmen in their openning days of college life. Not based on scholastics but on service in their parish and community life.

So, doors open at 6:30 with Racing beginning just after 7PM. The Theme is Baseball.

This Evening We Attended A Wake For Agnes. She Was The Wife of A Founding Grand Knight Of Our Council And A Long Term Member Of The Ladies Auxilliary At St Elizabeth. The Ladies Produced A Wonderful Prayer Service And Took Us Through Some Memories Of The Wonderful And Caring Person Agnes Was.

Our Night at the Races on that cold, cold Saturday night was well attended with guests from the Farmingdale Council as well. Worthy SK George Richardson was again superb as Master of Ceremonies/Caller and Andy Rainone and SK Mike Lillis served up a well received repast.

St Patrick's Birthright Mass

On January 18th a Mass at St Patricks in New York City will be for the unborn. The Knights from many areas will be in presence along with the Color Guard. This is a superbly attended event with the Cardinal. Our Lady of Perpetual Health has a bus leaving their Council early on Sunday. It is 15.00 for each person return.

My Wife and I will be going in by train and meet them there.
